Why is Easter so Important?

Praise the Lord everybody, and welcome to the Resurrection Center, “The Place Where Dead Dreams Live Again”. Thank you for joining us on this Resurrection Sunday.

Everyone knows that dates are important. Many of you who love history will remember that on October 14, 1492 – Christopher Columbus landed in the Americas. September 28, 1972 – Paul Henderson scored the goal of the century allowing Canada to win the Summit Series over the Soviets. December 7, 1941 – Pearl Harbour was attacked which ushered the U.S. into the Second World War July 1, 1867 – Canadian Confederation. October 31, 1517 – Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the Wittenberg Door, which essentially started the Protestant Reformation. January 28, 1986 – The Challenger Explosion.  July 20, 1969 – Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. April 15, 1912 – The Sinking of The Titanic. December 19, 1997 – The Releasing of The Titanic. Hearing the Complete Message

I can hardly believe that Easter is just around the corner. Easter is my favour time of the year.  I love Easter because it’s all about redemption and forgiveness. Easter is significant to the believer because of the Blood and the broken Body of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. It’s also about “Resurrection” and dead dreams and hopes coming back to life again.

I recently read a story that took place on June 18, 1815. It is known as the Battle of Waterloo. The French under the command of Napoleon were fighting the allied forces of the British, Dutch, and Germans under the command of Wellington. The people of England depended on a system of signals to find out how the battle was going. One of these signals was on the tower of Winchester Cathedral.

Late in the day it flashed the signal: “W – E – L – L – I – N – G – T – O – N – - – D – E – F – E – A – T – E – D – - -.” Just at that moment a fog cloud made it impossible to read the message. The news of defeat quickly spread throughout the city. The whole countryside was sad and gloomy when they heard the news that their country had lost the war. Prayer Simply Said

I’ve been teaching and preaching a sermon series entitled “THE CHRIST CHURCH” and on Sunday I talked about “PRAYER”. Prayer is not a foreign topic to us here at the Resurrection Center however we need to keep prayer at the forefront of our lives and ministries.

Each month I receive a Newsletter from Tony Cooke and in the recent newsletter he shared seven simple thoughts on prayer and I would like to share these thoughts with you.

Priority Shift

Priority ShiftI believe we need to make a Priority Shift here at the RC where our focus moves from in reach to outreach. Christ brought us out of darkness into His light for three primary reasons:

  1. First so that we would minister to God. This has to do with our relationship with God, which we develop through prayer, worship and reading His Word.
  2. Secondly, to minister to one another. This has to do with our relationship with other Christians, which is expressed through love, fellowship and serving.
  3. Thirdly, to minister to the world. This has to do with our relationship with those who do not yet know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and is expressed through evangelism, community outreach, church planting and missions.

The interesting thing about these three important ministries is that the only one that can’t be done in heaven is number three. Read the rest of this entry »

Lost people matter to God

Lost people matter to God, they should matter to us. Hybels

Heaven gets more excited about lost people being found than about any other thing. Jesus came into the world for a number of reasons, but the primary reason was to save sinners (Matthew 9:13). As Bill Hybels says, Lost people matter to God. Therefore, they should matter to us. Saving lost people is God’s bottom line. God’s heart is for the world. He doesn’t want anyone to perish, but all to come to repentance. He wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Friend, God has done His part. Jesus has done His part. He went to the cross and took our sin, our judgement and our death upon Himself. He died, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God. The Holy Spirit has done His part. He has come to empower, enlighten and encourage us to do our part.
