Great Commission: Differences

02 Jul

Source of the Article: Devotional from the Church of God International office regarding the Great Commission written by Dr. Culpepper and P. Douglas Small.

THE MANDATE – Matt 7:13-14 says, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. John 10:9 says, I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

THE MEDITATION – Lord, I cannot forget the conversation. I was stunned. How could this new acquaintance have believed what she saying? She was so blindly confident of her perspective. “Buddhism and Christianity are much alike,” she declared. They both seek truth. They encourage all humans to be good.” She had emigrated from China. She lived here for many years but yet had never even visited  Christian church. She had never heard the Gospel clearly. And she had obviously never seen the radical difference between Buddhism and Christianity. Read the rest of this entry »

Did you get the memo?

Did you get the memo?

I was hurrying up to go to the hospital for a general checkup. I was running both figuratively and for real! I don’t like being late but that’s another story.
I finally got to the office to advise the secretary of my arrival and the room was empty. I thought to myself that I must have come to the wrong ward or on the wrong day.
Nevertheless I sat down and while I was catching my breath, this paper on the wall got all my attention. The title just jumped at me; it said: MEMO FROM GOD!

I was trying to read as fast as I could just in case my time would be up. Guess what? My time was up and I never got to finish reading the memo!

The checkup went fine; except for the fact that I was hot and sweaty and that the nurse kept telling me to settle down and remove my shirt. There was a radio playing classical music full blast. I like classical music, but it is not the best of thing to listen to it, specially, when the piece hits the crescendo and the fortissimo, which are the potent part in the music piece!
Anyway, I got through with all that and while I was getting dress, I remembered the article on the wall in the waiting area. I went over to the nurse and ask her for a pen and paper to take notes from the memo. Read the rest of this entry »

Lost people matter to God

Lost people matter to God, they should matter to us. Hybels

Heaven gets more excited about lost people being found than about any other thing. Jesus came into the world for a number of reasons, but the primary reason was to save sinners (Matthew 9:13). As Bill Hybels says, Lost people matter to God. Therefore, they should matter to us. Saving lost people is God’s bottom line. God’s heart is for the world. He doesn’t want anyone to perish, but all to come to repentance. He wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Friend, God has done His part. Jesus has done His part. He went to the cross and took our sin, our judgement and our death upon Himself. He died, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God. The Holy Spirit has done His part. He has come to empower, enlighten and encourage us to do our part. But what is our part and are we doing it? Read the rest of this entry »

I must say the last 5 characteristics really paint a vivid and colourful picture of the Christ-Church. We need to know that we must also be defined by these characteristics as we are the Church.

  • The eleventh ingredient that must be found in a “CHRIST CHURCH” is the church must be a fellowshipping, related church. Acts 2:46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they are their food with gladness and simplicity of heart.Character of the Christ Church
